Urgent Message for Users of ALL Windows Mobile Devices

Recently it's come to our attention that a Windows 10 upgrade for desktops named the "Creator's Update" (build 1703) has created a bug that prevents proper synching of your Windows Mobile/Embedded/CE Devices. 

Here are the details of what you should know so far:

Description of Issue:

Unable to sync Windows Mobile/Embedded/CE devices to Windows 10 PC.

Devices Affected:  

ALL Windows Mobile Devices

Systems Affected: 

Windows 10 (any version) build 1703 – “Creators Update”
Windows CE 5, 6 and 7
Windows Mobile 5 and 6.1
Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5.x 


The latest update to Windows 10 (build 1703/Creators Update) renders WMDC nonfunctional. 
There is no authorized solution from Microsoft to address this issue. There are although several fixes and workarounds on the internet targeting this problem.
WMDC version 6.1 was originally released with Windows Vista. It is an update to the Active Sync product found in Windows XP and Windows OS versions prior. It is important to note that Microsoft had announced the end of mainstream support for WMDC as 7/10/2012. Despite this end of support date, WMDC has continued to function until Windows 10 build 1703.

Our Recommendation:

  1. If you have not yet updated your Win10 Desktop Version to the "Creator's Update", then please delay doing so until there are better workarounds in order to avoid any disruption to your current processes.

  3. Finally, the end of life for support for Windows CE and Windows Embedded Handhelds will soon be here. Starting in 2018 through 2020, Microsoft is phasing out support for a variety of Windows Embedded Operating Systems, we recommend that you start now to plan a migration to Android for your devices.
